The LaFontaine Arts Council Regional Art Show Reception and awards night was held Thursday, August 3, at 6:00 p.m. at the Robert E. Wilson Gallery located in the Merillat Centre for the Arts at Huntington University.
Lisa Bliss Rush’s piece “Woodland Nymph won the BEST OF SHOW award. The award was sponsored by First Federal Savings Bank. A resident of Camden, Indiana, Lisa states:
“I love to draw the human face. The “Woodland Nymph” offered an exciting challenge by allowing me to draw a face without using traditional skin tones. I was very pleased with the blues and lavenders in her skin tones which forced me to think “outside the box” and see the subject, not as skin, but as values of light and dark.
Leonardo DaVinci is quoted as saying, “A painter should begin every canvas with a wash of black because all things in nature are dark except where exposed by light.” I work almost exclusively on black paper and have for many years. I approach a drawing by focusing on the lightest values and begin pulling those out of the darkness by applying many layers of colored pencil.”
Judge’s Awards went to Teri Fuller-O’Brien, of Huntington, for “Pluto & Prosperine” and Brenda Ramseier, of Silver Lake, for “Proud.” The Judge’s Awards were sponsored by Delaney Hartburg Roth and Garrott LLC and McVoy Design Studio.
